With rising obesity rates among children and years of inactivity through multiple national lockdowns, getting children moving has never been more critical - for their physical and mental wellbeing.
That's why early years providers can now get a free activity class for their setting thanks to the £1million Early Years Sports Fund from Super Star Sport UK.
A spokesperson said: "As of 2021, England’s National Childhood Measurement Programme found that 27.7% of early years children are overweight or obese.
"That is why it is our absolute passion to reach as many children as possible to involve them in sport, and it is with this vision that the £1 million early years sports fund was born.
"The fund aims to to ensure every single child who attends an early years setting, in England, has the opportunity to take part in a fully-funded sports and activity session within that setting.
"This is so, so important to us as we know that through the power of sports the children will benefit in so many ways physically, socially and mentally."
1000 enquiries and counting
In August, the fund was relaunched and since then has had 1,000 enquiries - and counting - from providers seeking an activity class.
Throughout 2022, thousands of early years children enjoyed active and fun sessions through the Early Years Sports Fund and now there are even bigger plans for 2023.
Ambitions are big but the emphasis is on fun and early years educators will be able to choose from a range of activities on offer.
In 2023, in addition to sports and games, the following activities will be offered:
Superhero sports
Sports party
Disney day
Outdoor adventure activities
Gymnastic games
