Duchess of Cambridge and Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to visit Denmark
By Rachel Lawler
The Duchess of Cambridge is due to visit Copenhagen later this month with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to learn from the country’s approach to early childhood development.
The official visit aims to raise awareness of the importance of the early years while also paying tribute to the historic ties between Britain and Denmark as both countries plan to celebrate Jubilees this year.
It will be the second time the Duchess has visited Denmark on an official trip, after she visited in 2011 alongside the Duke of Cambridge.
The trip, taking place from 22 to 23 February, will see the Duchess learning about how Denmark has “created an enabling culture for early childhood development” and “specifically how it has promoted infant mental wellbeing alongside physical health” as well as how it “harnesses the power of nature, relationships and playful learning in the first five years of life”.
The Duchess will meet with children, families, leading researchers and others working in the early education sector.
The Royal Foundation described Denmark as a “beacon of best practice with its approach to early childhood”. It added: "The Duchess is looking forward to visiting the country, learning from the Danish people, and continuing to build on the already close friendship between the two countries."
