The Alliance has launched an email campaign, asking MPs to challenge the government's decision to put limitations on how early years providers can access the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

Previous guidance from the Department for Education (DfE) confirmed that providers could continue to recieve funding for 'free' entitlements, including the 15 and 30 hours offers, during closures while also benefitting from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

The job retention scheme provides grants for up to 80% of monthly salary costs for furloughed staff members who are unable to work during closures related to the coronavirus crisis.

However, yesterday (April 17) the DfE issued updated suggesting that providers will only be able to access the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to "cover the proportion of its paybill which could be considered to have been paid for from that provider's private income".

This leaves many providers out of pocket after already making business decisions based on previous guidance, in what the Alliance has described as a "kick in the teeth" for the sector.
