Alliance launches infection prevention training

hygiene in early years settingsThe Alliance has launched a new training course on preventing and controlling infection in early years settings.

Developed in partnership with EduCare, Infection control in an early years setting is available free to Alliance members and their teams.

The course is split into four modules, each breaking down a different part of how prevention and control works in an early years setting. Learners begin by looking at how to develop good personal hygiene practice for both staff and children, as well as how to effectively clean and manage outbreaks.

The course then offers an overview of the guidance and key terms that all practitioners should be aware of.

Melanie Pilcher, quality and standards manager at the Alliance, commented: 鈥淚t is important to remember that the role of practitioners in preventing and controlling infection forms part of the Early Years Foundation Stage, which calls on providers to have a procedure for 鈥榬esponding to children who are ill or infectious, take necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection and take appropriate action if children are ill.鈥

鈥淵oung children are vulnerable to infections because their immune systems are still developing, and so we as practitioners have a vital role to play in preventing and controlling infection.

鈥淭his course aims to provide practitioners with the practical steps they can take to ensure a clean and safe environment where outbreaks of illness are managed effectively.鈥

Alliance members and their teams can access this course, as well as up to 20 other EduCare courses, completely free every year.
