Four out of five parents say they will use 30-hour offer

Four out of five parents will take up additional funded childcare hours when the 30-hours offer comes into place, according to a Department for Education (DfE) report on parents’ views.
A survey of 851 parents, conducted by Ipsos Mori on behalf of the DfE, found that 83% of those currently using the government’s 15 hours of funded childcare say that they are likely to use the full 30 hours that will be offered from September 2017 onwards. Around a third (29%) of these said that the scheme would help reduce the cost of the additional hours of childcare that they currently purchase.
Parents who do not currently work also said that the 30-hours offer could change their childcare plans. 58% of respondents in non-working households said that they would look for a more suitable job if the 30-hours of funded childcare were offered to them.
Last month, that the government has underestimated demand for the 30-hour scheme. Research carried out by independent research company Ceeda suggested that the government may need an additional 110,000 funded places.
