DfE confirms new early years minister

The DfE has confirmed Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, as early years minister.

The news follows public concerns made by the Alliance both last week and earlier today and comes more than three weeks after Prime Minister Theresa May finalised her cabinet appointments.

Commenting on the appointment, Neil Leitch, chief executive at the Pre-school Learning Alliance, said he welcomes the news and congratulated her on her new role.

“With the planned roll-out of the 30-hour free entitlement offer, the imminent launch of the government’s early years workforce and life chances strategies, and the publication of a revised EYFS Framework, this is clearly a time of significant change and transition for the early years sector – and one that can only benefit from a positive, honest and open relationship between the sector and government,” Neil said.

“As such, we look forward to working closely with Ms Dinenage and her team at the Department for Education, to continuing to represent the views, ideas and concerns of early years providers and, crucially, to working in partnership with government to build and sustain a quality, affordable, sustainable early years sector.”

Caroline was appointed parliamentary private secretary to Nicky Morgan in April 2014 and became junior minister at the Department for Education in July this year.
