Alliance voices disappointment over lack of childcare minister

Neil Leitch, chief executive at the Pre-school Learning Alliance, has voiced his disappointment that the government has still not appointed a minister to the early years portfolio.

鈥淲ith news that the , it is very possible that the introduction of the promised national early years funding formula may also be delayed 鈥 and we are still waiting for the workforce development strategy which was promised this year,鈥 Neil said.

鈥淭hese delays have added to feelings of uncertainty among providers, and many are still understandably unsure how 鈥 or if 鈥 they will implement the 30-hours offer next year.鈥

Neil said that in order to make key decisions which will inform the implementation process, it is crucial that a dedicated person is assigned the brief.

鈥淲e look forward to receiving an update from the DFE shortly,鈥 Neil added.

Former childcare minister Sam Gyimah was appointed minister of justice on 17 July this year.
