Government to launch consultation on children’s centres

The Department for Education will launch an open consultation about children’s centres, childcare minister Sam Gyimah has announced.

In an open letter, Mr Gyimah wrote: “This will be a consultation that will offer parents, carers, local authorities and key stakeholders the opportunity to influence and drive what we expect from children’s centre services and where we see them collectively having the greatest impact.

“We want to hear views from everyone who accesses, works in or oversees children’s centres.”

Mr Gyimah added that “the barometer of whether we are doing well is not the number of centres open but the services they provide and the impact of those services”.

He confirmed that the launch date of the consultation would follow.
