Commenting on the Commission on Gender Stereotypes in Early Childhood report, Neil Leitch, chief executive of the Early Years Alliance, said:
"We warmly welcome the Commission’s recommendation on the pay and status of work in the early years sector, both of which must be raised. This will be key in promoting more diverse recruitment and crucially, properly reward those already working in the sector.
"Early years professionals are extremely well placed to reduce the impact of gender stereotypes on children and they are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between boys and girls.
"As the report shows, practitioners are enthusiastic about the need for clear guidance and training on gender equality. However, training budgets in the sector are limited and many are yet to receive any such support. The government should invest in the early years workforce now, to get them the training they need and to help ensure every child fulfils their potential."
