The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile is to remain in place for 2017/18, education secretary Justine Greening revealed today in a statement to parliament.

 

Neil Leitch, chief executive at the Pre-school Learning Alliance, said that he welcomes the news and hopes it is the first step to the full reinstatement of its statutory status.

 

“The Profile plays a vital role in supporting children’s early learning and development across a broad range of important areas, and we have always maintained that the government should focus its efforts on building and improving upon it, rather than trying to replace it with a narrow, tick-box approach, as we saw with ,” Neil said.

 

“We look forward to contributing to the planned consultation into primary assessment and hope that the government will listen to and engage with the sector on this issue.”
