The Alliance has launched a new publication that helps practitioners turn everyday early years activities into maths lessons.

 

Discovering Maths through Play helps practitioners to spot readily available opportunities for maths in their setting. The resource will help build confidence and develop skills in one of the EYFS’ four specific areas of learning and development.

 

Adrian Brindley, head of pre-prep at Bilton Grange Preparatory School, Rugby, writes in the foreword: “Young children have a natural love of number, size and shape as these help them to make sense of the world around them. The role of the adults in their lives is to nurture these positive views of mathematics so that they maintain their enthusiasm into formal schooling and beyond.”
