Commenting, Neil Leitch, chief executive of the Early Years Alliance, said:
"While we welcome the recognition that plans to open 3,000 new primary school-based nurseries is just an initial step in Labour's plans for early education and care, given the pressures currently facing providers, it's clear that more clarity on exactly how the party will support and reform the sector going forward is desperately needed.
"With the early years experiencing one of the worst staffing crises in its history, and with thousands of settings forced to close year on year, we're clear that urgent action on improving funding and developing a comprehensive workforce strategy must be a priority for the next government, whoever comes into power on 5 July."
